Rant# 3 Black Friday

We all know at this particular day are shopper’s paradise. This shopper’s holiday has discounts, sales, and deals, just about anything that a shopper will love and adore. If you are not a shopaholic please avoid stores at all cost! What isn’t clear is that why these people will awake or camp out stores just to shop for items that will be on sale until New Years?

Retailers flourish on this behavior because it’s opportunity to make quick bank. All they have to do is place an item on sale in ad and sell to people. Ironically, people for fall it every time. Next day there they are standing like vultures hunting for their for big ticket items. Unfortunate employers must work this day and witness this madness. You don’t understand what these people go through and would rather be elsewhere than dealing with these crazy customers.

Why customers put themselves into this forest? Economically, you don’t save money despite the discounts because you’re trying to justify purchasing item that’s beyond your budget to bring someone happiness. No one ever thinks can they afford the item. Suze Orman had done a special episode last week on this issue. I advise everyone to watch her show, The Suze Orman Show. The recession hasn’t lifted and there’s rise of poverty that many of you don’t take into consideration, but that’s another topic altogether.

Is Black Friday really that serious? Is it not possible to wait awhile since it’s a season of discount? Common sense should say “why shop tomorrow when there’s a chance I may find better rates towards Christmas or New Years?” that’s not a bad idea huh? If you can’t wait then try the safer and quicker approach, online shopping! There you go another thought that it didn’t came mind until now. Some of you might follow that suggestion or still take the latter. This “shopper holiday” is something that can’t ever be understood.

Rant #2: why females are pay less for not being males

After hardship for demanding equal rights for both genders providing an edge for freedom and opportunity, but now it’s a new century and women are still getting less results. In the workforce the disparity of income of genders are still large. Majority corporate senior and executives are males (specifically white and Asian). Therefore without such network and lack of female and minority senior and executives the chances for women are climb the high ladder without issue are low.

A woman knows no matter what she is still in a man’s world and playing a man’s game. Therefore she will get in touch with her masculine side to match her male rivals and sometimes she will succeed. Although she’ll make 1.5% more than being feminine there’s terrible price. Some women tend to lose their femininity and most likely be single since men feel intimidated. In the workforce, she’s given horrid names as she’s seen as the enemy that should never be crossed while her male counterparts who act the same way are well respected.

David Hekman, Assistant Professor of Management at Wisconsin-Milwaukee, hired male and female actor to be employees. Unfortunately the results appeared that 19% more customers were pleased by the male employee although the actors read and follow the same script. 38% of the customers were women, indicating women and minorities are susceptible to systematic gender biases. What should this experimentation tell us?

Society is more favor of men and wants to enforce Sigmund Freud’s penis envy theory. Freud’s penis envy indicates that complex issues occur when girls realize they don’t have a penis and vice versa for boys. Our female managers have this troubling factor that they still make less than males any industry. Betty Spence, president of the National Association of Female Executives, an advocacy group representing women executives, says those numbers are alarming. The only exception is tech industry because there are constant changes in the field therefore is open ideas. Women make 93% of what men make in the field.

Spence said “Gender bias may not be entirely responsible for the unaccounted-for part of the gap. Women may work fewer hours than men or may not be as aggressive in negotiating salaries.” Since is seen often in finance because should a woman have a family there’s a pay cut and penalty. The woman will come back but must work twice as hard against fathers will receive rewards and income increase.

Don’t think minority women have any luck because it’s a double-edge sword. Only they are women but are minorities trying to work a majority man’s world. While blacks are lowest representatives in the workforce but exceed their counterparts in the service and healthcare industries. Hispanics have made the most improve as their numbers have increase by 4.7% are represented highest in male dominated industries. Asians increase by 2.1% and are far more commonly seen in tech industry.

This is a sign of hope that more changes are coming are women’s way. We almost had a first female president had the democratic selected Hilary Clinton. Now America has the first black president and first lady, so how is that for you? Corporate is appearing to be more open, non-macho, and slowly closing the income gap although it’s not happening fast enough. Ladies stand up and become direct because your actions will be remember if you are active than passive.
